Filmmaker's Talk: OGIGAMI Naoko

As a director and writer representing Japan, Ogigami Naoko has built her own style of filmmaking through films the likes of Yoshino's Barber Shop (2004), Kamome Diner (2006), Rent-a-Cat (2012), and Riverside Mukolitta (2021). Coming back to BIFF with her newest film Ripples (2023), she will share her filmmaking philosophy with the emerging filmmakers at Platform BUSAN.

Karen PARK(Programmer, Busan International Film Festival)

Born in Daegu, Karen Park studied aesthetics at the Seoul National University. She started working in the film industry at CJ Entertainment and was involved in the M&A of Cinema Service and the IPO of CJ CGV. She also created and carried out marketing and promotion strategies for films distributed by CJ, including Sympathy for Lady Vengeance, Rules of Dating and All for Love. Park joined the Busan International Film Festival in 2010, and took part in program management and guest management. Currently she is in charge of programming for Latin America, Eastern Europe and the Nordic countries.

OGIGAMI Naoko (Director)

After graduation from Chiba University′s Image Science program, Naoko Ogigami went to the United States in 1994 to study film at the University of Southern California. During this period, she worked as an assistant for TV commercials, promotional videos, and films, and also created short films of her own. Returned to Japan in January 2000. "Yoshino′s Barber Shop" is her feature length film debut.
She received attention for her directorial debut Yoshino’s Barber Shop (2003), which received a Special Mention at the Kinderfilmfest in the Berlin Film Festival in 2004. Her third film, Kamome Diner (2006) has been very successful both domestically and internationally. Her fourth film, Glasses (2007) received Manfred Salzgeber Award of the Berlin Film Festival, and nominated in the Sundance Film Festival. Close-Knit (2017) received Teddy Jury Award of the Berlin Film Festival and many awards all over the world. ​
