2023 Busan Story Market Announces 30 Korean IP Selections!

The Busan Story Market (BSM), which notably launched last year as the world's first IP content sales market, has unveiled this year's official Korean IP selections. BSM is an IP sales market where stories, the foundation for all contents, are traded to be reproduced on various platforms. In 2022, by integrating the functions of the Entertainment Intellectual Property Market (E-IP Market), BSM expanded the pathways for original IPs. A total of 51 IPs from five countries were selected, achieving the highest number of business meetings conducted in history, and garnering significant attention from industry professionals. Notably, DIVE by KYOBO BOOK CENTRE and The Goddess of Farming by STUDIO YOSIN achieved successful contracts for audiovisual adaptation rights. Furthermore, the sci-fi thriller Black Knight (2023)an official selection at the E-IP Market in 2018, which was released on Netflix in May this yeargained recognition as a successful case.

2023 Busan Story Market : A Showcase of Diverse Genres

11 Stories, 8 Books, 8 Webtoons, and 3 Web Novels!

Overwhelming Fictional Worlds Added to Romance, Thriller, and Action Genres!

The open call for submissions, which took place from 22 May to 9 Jun, resulted in a total of 94 companies and 264 projects participating. Notably, there were 9 new selected rights holders this year, showing consistent annual growth and the high interest of the content industry in BSM.

For the Korean IP selections, a total of 11 stories, 8 books, 8 webtoons, and 3 web novels have been officially confirmed. Each project showcases heightened levels of quality, originality, and timeliness while delving into diverse subject matter. Unlike previous years when webtoon projects held a significant portion, this year saw a majority of story-focused projects being selected. This shift indicates a growing demand for IP in the early stages with significant potential.

The 30 selected Korean IPs will be invited as official selections of BSM 2023. This will provide them with opportunities for IP sales—including pitching sessions and business meetings for copyright transactions—targeting professionals in the domestic and international audiovisual industries. With the unveiling of these distinctive Korean IP selections, 2023 Asian Contents & Film Market anticipates the limitless potential of K-contents. ACFM 2023 will take place at Hall 1, Exhibition Center 1 of BEXCO in Busan, starting from 7 to 10 October.
