The Malaysian Development Lab for Fiction Feature Films (mylab) is an incubator programme for teams of scriptwriters, directors, producers to work on the script and project development with international experts in scriptwriting, directing, producing, distribution, and markets/festivals. Projects selected are at the early stage of development, with scriptwriter, filmmaker, producer attached, for a feature film aimed at regional & global audiences
During mylab, participants are expected to enhance their knowledge, skills and project development plans under the guidance of notable script mentors, group leaders, film directors and other film industry experts through personalised meetings, lectures and case studies.
The participants of mylab will also develop skills to evaluate, feedback and support each other and work closely with their mentors and fellow participants to uplift the community and industry ties in Malaysia and beyond.
mylab Project Presentation is designed for directors and producers to present their projects to the industry professionals and make a network connection to the industry. There are 8 feature projects selected from Malaysia, Singapore and the Philippines.
The first two sessions of mylab were held online. The final in person session will take place alongside the Busan International Film Festival, in the city of Busan. mylab is founded and curated by Lorna Tee and Haris Sulong as advisor to the programme.
mylab is organized by the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS) and Communications & Multimedia Ministry Malaysia (K-KOMM) in partnership with Asian Contents & Film Market (ACFM) of Busan International Film Festival, Singapore Film Commission (SFC), the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) and Taiwan Creative Content Agency (TAICCA).
