The free association of images and sounds is the starting point of sound design in cinema, the creation of an enriching tension for each film.
Subjective and objective listening point, sound transitions, framing and spatial relationship, Sound design begins by creating a distance between what we see and what we hear.

Guest
Vincent VILLA (Sound Designer, Kongchak Studio)

Vincent Villa is a French sound designer, based between France and Cambodia. In 2007, he launched Soundies Studio in Paris, but it was in 2010 that he visited Cambodia for the first time, while working on the documentary GOLDEN SLUMBERS directed by Davy Chou (Busan International Film Festival, Forum Berlinale). CAMBODIA 2099 (Cannes Directors’ Fortnight 2014), DIAMOND ISLAND (Cannes Critic's Week 2016) and the recent RETURN TO SEOUL (Cannes Official Un Certain Regard 2022, Nominated for Best Sound AFA 2023), all directed by Davy Chou, have allowed him to develop his work on the image-sound relationship, from script development to the final sound mix, with the support and freedom given to him by the director.

His meeting with filmmakers and producers from Southeast Asia, such as Bianca Balbuena, Bradley Liew, Lee Chatametikool, Weijie Lai, Marie Dubas, Le Bao, Jimmy Henderson, Kavich Neang and Antoinette Jadaone have allowed him to sound design acclaimed films from the region, such as “MOTEL ACACIA”, “TASTE”, “THE PREY”, “WHITE BUILDING”, and “FAN GIRL”, for which he won the Best Sound Award at the 2020 Eddys Awards in the Philippines.

In 2018, he met the Franco-Cambodian producer Loy Te and they launched Kongchak Studio, partner of APM 2023.
