This session examines how Korea’s globally recognized IP business model is evolving with the introduction of Generative AI. It will explore the fusion of AI technology with story IP ecosystems, such as webtoons and web novels, and discuss their influences and ethical issues in the global market.

Jay KIM (CCO, SM Studio Realive)

Jay majored in literature and film. Since 2016, he has been leading the new media section at BIFAN as curator of the XR section ‘Beyond Reality’. He is a founding member of ‘GiiOii’, a studio dedicated to immersive storytelling, where he had been planning and producing XR contents, as well as several global co-production projects, including Missing Pictures (2022). He is the director of SM Studio REAL LIVE and also works in the field of exhibition and distribution of immersive content, where he also acts as a consultant.

Daesik KIM (SVP/Lead, Webtoon AI&Data, WEBTOON Entertainment)

Daesik Kim is the Head of AI&Data for WEBTOON Entertainment and its subsidiaries. Mr. Kim joined the company from V.DO Inc., which was acquired by NAVER WEBTOON in 2019. He began to oversee NAVER WEBTOON’s artificial intelligence organizations in November 2020, in a role that later expanded to oversee both data and AI teams in November 2022. Mr. Kim was appointed Vice President of NAVER WEBTOON in 2022.

Before joining NAVER WEBTOON, Mr. Kim served as CEO of AI startup V.DO Inc. from September 2017 to December 2019, where he also oversaw business management and deep learning computer vision project management as CTO. Mr. Kim received a bachelor’s degree in Industrial and Management Engineering at POSTECH, and a PhD in Intelligence and Information (machine learning, deep learning researcher) from Seoul National University.

Nathan KIM (Senior APAC Growth Manager, Story Protocol)

Nathan Kim is the Senior Manager of APAC Growth at Story, the World's IP Blockchain, on-ramping Programmable IP to power the next generation of AI, DeFi, and consumer applications. He has been pioneering marketing and community building in the Asia-Pacific Web3 market since 2017. Previously, he led Korean community growth and marketing at Maker, a decentralized finance protocol, and organized the Korea DeFi Roadshow for two years. At Unopnd, he provided strategic support to early-stage Web3 projects by developing go-to-market strategies, encompassing community building, NFT sales, and product launches. Additionally, he assisted ShardLab in organizing the Southeast Asia Blockchain Week 2024, overseeing the management of speakers and curating and structuring the key themes and narratives for the conference.

Krishna SOOD(Assistant General Counsel, Open Innovation, Microsoft)

Krishna Sood is a senior leader within Microsoft’s Intellectual Property Group, with over 20 years of global legal and regulatory experience across Australasia, EMEA and the US. Prior to leading Microsoft’s AI and IP Strategic Initiatives, Krishna led the global Open Innovation legal team with a focus on copyright, trade secrets, data and digital assets. Krishna, and her team, were nominated for FT Innovative Lawyers Award 2023 for establishing the Data Innovation Practice to empower the strategic, innovative and responsible use of data for AI innovation. Prior to joining Microsoft, Krishna worked for the BBC, Formula One and A+E Networks UK, now a Hearst company. Krishna is a visiting lecturer for the Executive Course on Data Stewardship (New York University) and an expert advisor to the Global Partnership on AI and the EU IPO Observatory.
