Adapting real-life events and original works such as webtoons and web novels raises issues of creative freedom, the rights of individuals portrayed, copyright, and contractual rights. Drawing on cases and disputes, this seminar examines the boundaries of creative freedom in portraying real events and the permissible adaptation of original works, addressing the right to prepare derivative works, moral rights, rights clearance, compensation for original authors, revenue sharing, and practical considerations.
