This session spotlights the latest breakthroughs in AI storytelling, featuring five boundary-pushing films from a global call that showcase today’s cutting-edge capabilities of generative AI. Filmmakers, international industry leaders, technologists, and scholars will join on stage to discuss AI’s impact on cinematic creation and the future of storytelling. Alongside these discussions, Dreamina AI and Volcano Engine will unveil their newest AI foundation model technologies and video-generation tools, offering a front-row view into the transformative potential of AI-generated film.

Odet ABADIA (Director, AI Future Imaging Research Center/Film Director/Producer)

Odet Abadia, Director of the AI Future Imaging Research Center at Shanghai Vancouver Film School (SHVFS), is a Spanish director and producer active across Europe and Asia. Her work explores the intersection of technology, storytelling, and transnational cultural exchange, with experience spanning documentary, animation, and AI-driven visual media. She directed the BBC Storyworks documentary Innovent, created a WHO public service announcement on mental health in China, and wrote and directed the educational animation Learn Spanish with Lince & Panda. Through her projects, she bridges narrative innovation with cross-cultural communication, bringing sensitivity to visual language and emotion.

International film producer. Executive producer of the Academy Award-winning film The Revenant. His representative works include The Dark Knight, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Hero, Cloud Atlas, and Fearless.

LI Yinhe (Sociologist)

Sociologist. Her representative works include Li Yinhe on Love and Feminism. Named one of the “50 Most Influential People in China” by Asiaweek in 1999. She has also contributed invited film reviews for Sister, Better Days, and many other films.

KIM Tae-yong (Film Director/Screenwriter)

Acclaimed Korean director and screenwriter. His representative works include Late Autumn, Family Ties, and Memento Mori. He has been nominated for and won major awards at the Busan International Film Festival, Berlin International Film Festival, and others.

WING Shya (Director/Photographer/Designer/Founder, Shya-La-La Workshop)

Renowned Hong Kong director, photographer, and designer. Longtime collaborator with director Wong Kar-wai, serving as still photographer and visual designer for Happy Together, In the Mood for Love, 2046, among others. Founder of Shya-La-La Workshop.

LIANG Ming (Director/Screenwriter)

Director and screenwriter. His representative works include Wisdom Tooth and Carefree·Wandering. His films have been selected for the Rotterdam International Film Festival and nominated for Best Director and Best Screenplay at the Asia Pacific Screen Awards (APSA).

WANG Jing (Production Designer/Secretary-General, Art Committee, China Television Production Industry Association)

Production designer, Secretary-General of the Art Committee of the China Television Production Industry Association. His representative works include Lychee of Chang’an, City of Rock, The Story of Minglan, and The Tale of Rose. He was nominated for Best Production Design at the 25th Shanghai TV Festival Magnolia Awards.

XIANG Kai (Senior Director, Model Strategy Product, Volcano Ark)

Dr. Xiang leads model strategy product at Volcano Ark, Volcano Engine. In his role, he shapes the model behavior of frontier models developed inhouse in order to fulfil the needs of creators and developers. Dr. Xiang obtained his PhD from MIT and his bachelors from Tsinghua University.

Reza Sixo SAFAI (Filmmaker/Actor/Writer)

Reza Sixo Safai is an award-winning filmmaker, actor, and writer whose bold, boundary-pushing work has been celebrated at Sundance, Cannes, and beyond. Renowned for his innovative approach to storytelling, he crafts films that challenge perception, blend genres, and defy expectations. He produced and co-starred in A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night, the acclaimed Iranian vampire western praised by Time magazine as one of the best vampire films of all time. Recently he co-founded Massive Studios which Forbes described as “a creative shop with deep expertise in generative AI.”

XIAO Jiang (Deputy General Manager of Film Production, Bona Film Group)

She is a producer and screenwriter. The works for which Xiao Jiang served as producer cover a range of categories: feature films including The Captain, Chinese Doctors, The Moment of Truth, The Battle at Lake Changjin, The Battle at Lake Changjin II: Water Gate Bridge, Hidden Blade, Bloody Dolls, and Ip Man 4: The Finale; animated films such as Next Gen and New Gods: Nezha Reborn; and the 24-episode TV drama Shangganling. She specializes in the full-process production management of top-tier commercial blockbusters. At the end of 2023, she took on the role of Head of Bona AIGMS Production Center and served as the Chief Director & Screenwriter for the first two seasons of Sanxingdui: Apocalypse of the Future - a full-process AIGC sci-fi short drama. This work integrates cutting-edge technology with traditional storytelling and combines the ancient Shu civilization with futuristic technology concepts. While applying AI technology to create an IP matrix she also led the team in developing vertical application technologies. On the premise of maintaining humanistic warmth a "human-machine collaborative creation" methodology has been developed. She leverages AI technology to intelligently upgrade the film and television production process, drives content creation through technological innovation, ensures the quality of works with industrialized standards, and promotes the intelligent and digital transformation and upgrading of the film industry.

Rima YOON (Filmmaker/Creative Producer)

Rima Yoon is a creative director recognized for blending AI technology with live-action storytelling. She has applied AI extensively in high-profile projects, including aespa’s Armageddon and RICH MAN music videos, All Day Project’s FAMOUS, Tamburins’ Sunshine campaign film, and ZEROBASEONE’s ICONIK. For Rima, AI is not a replacement but a creative accelerator—supporting concept development, enhancing textures and quality in post-production, and increasing efficiency in motion work. Her practice highlights how AI can amplify human sensibility and originality, opening new possibilities for both artistic and commercial filmmaking.

Issa SISSOKO (Creative Director/AI filmmaker)

Issa Sissoko is a Creative Director and AI filmmaker based in New York. At Wonder Studios he leads end to end, AI assisted production, combining story, design, and generative tools to deliver campaigns and narrative prototypes at speed. A former performance marketer with 10+ years of experience, Issa is a Creative Director at Wonder Studios, which is an AI Native Studio pushing the boundaries and blending traditional filmmaking with AI. Issa also runs Amissa Studios, a creative lab developing Africa forward IP, including the historical fantasy series Mansa: Whispers of the Wind and Waves. He advises startups and brands on practical use of AI across writing, storyboarding, animation, and VFX, and teaches workshops to creators and companies. Issa is passionate about ownership, cultural authenticity, and building pathways for African and diaspora storytellers to access cutting edge tools, funding, and distribution.
